Room Service Roles:
This department is part of the larger Food and Beverage (F&B) department. Therefore, the role of room service employee is sometimes also referred to as an F&B employee. Not every hotel has a separate room service department; this depends on the size of the hotel. Companies that frequently offer room service vacancies include Hilton, Bilderberg and Fletcher hotels.
Room Service Tasks
As a room service employee, or a restaurant employee for hotel rooms, you are responsible for taking orders and serving food and beverages in the rooms both during the day and in the evening. Whether guests opt for room service or dining in the restaurant, they receive the same service and quality, and have access to the same menu. Excellent communication skills, good telephone manners, an eye for detail, confidence, and a professional approach are essential. Especially your passion for service and people can be a determining factor for success in this role.
Specific tasks of the room service department include:
Delivering drinks and meals to guest rooms
Preparing simple dishes
Providing friendly, professional, and prompt service at all times
Advising guests and assisting them with their orders
Taking orders over the phone, serving dishes in the rooms, and picking up trays
Being able to perform physically demanding work and work quickly
