General Manager - Rotterdam

The 5-star Mainport Hotel Rotterdam is internally connected with the 4-star Maashotel Rotterdam Centre, forming the largest hotel complex in Rotterdam and one of the largest in the BeNeLux region. Together, these iconic hotels offer 480 rooms, fitness and spa facilities, and very large meetings and events space. Located on the banks of the river Maas in the center of Rotterdam, the hotels provide stunning views of the Erasmus Bridge and the city skyline. Both hotels are part of the Hilton Honors program and will be rebranded as DoubleTree by Hilton Rotterdam Centre and Mainport Curio Collection by Hilton in 2024.

Job summary

The General Manager is accountable and responsible for ensuring the operation meets the brand target customer needs, ensuring employee engagement, focuses on growing revenues and maximizes financial performance.

The General Manager will report to the VP Operations and will be the strategic business leader of the property operations. The hotels have separate Front Office, Housekeeping, Food and Beverage outlets and Maintenance teams. Shared positions are People & Culture, Finance, Sales & Marketing and Reservations. You work directly with your senior Management team to develop and implement the overall strategy of the hotel.

The off property Cycas Cluster roles in People & Culture, Property Maintenance, Finance, Sales & Marketing and Revenue will support the General Manager and department heads in their specialization. 

Who are we looking for?

• GM with a people-oriented focus with 5+ years of progressive experience in hotel industry. Preferably in the Rotterdam market.
• Proven business acumen with good financial and analytical skills (e.g., ability to analyse P&L statements, develop operating budgets, forecast)
• Is able to build a great owner relationship
• A working commercial understanding including revenue management, ecommerce, and sales.
• Has demonstrated the ability of building high performance operation teams.
• Strong communication, coaching, mentoring, negotiation, and mediation skills; can articulate compelling ideas
• Change management - must have the ability to support, manage and initiate change within the organization, taking steps to remove barriers and or to accelerate its pace and implementation
• Able to develop and maintain effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrates ability to deliver results under difficult trading conditions and shows capability when faced with complexity and ambiguity.
• Experience in evaluating business trends, developing, and successfully implementing new operational programs and strategies that enhance business performance.
• Demonstrates success in evaluating risks and developing proactive strategies and plans to mitigate business issues.
• Successful track record of creating positive associate and customer relations.
• High proficiency (speaking, reading, and writing) in English is required, Dutch is a preference.
• Knowledge of the Hilton brand is preferred

• The General Manager role requires flexibility in working hours in line with operational needs to include weekends, evenings and holidays
