Porter Roles
Among all the porter vacancies, you’ll find various roles with different names and responsibilities. A porter can work both during the day and at night. A Night Porter or Night Receptionist primarily works overnight. A Concierge/Porter, Hotel Concierge, or Hotel Security shares many responsibilities with a porter. Another common term for porter is Doorman, which is used for similar roles. A Welcome Host or Hostess frequently works in the lobby or behind the reception desk. Keeping the entrance and lobby clean is also part of their duties. A Bellman is responsible for transporting guests’ luggage to or from their rooms, and this role is often combined with that of a porter. You will also collaborate closely with the Front Office, Receptionist, Reservations Officer, Assistant Front Office Manager, Front Office Manager, and Front Office Supervisor.
Working as a Porter
As a porter, you ensure a professional and guest-oriented first impression upon guests’ arrival and assist them as they depart the hotel. A good porter is helpful and friendly, supporting the reception and concierge teams in providing excellent and high-quality service to guests. You assist guests with their luggage, guide them to their rooms, and monitor the safety of the hotel. Additionally, you inform guests about the hotel’s facilities and the surrounding area. Working as a porter also means working in shifts, both on weekdays and weekends.
