An opportunity to work in Amsterdam’s famous Art Deco restaurant at the lively Leidseplein. Do you dish out the most innovative culinary creations, and do you enjoy being in the culinary spotlight? Then you may well be the new superstar of Café Americain.
Set in the vibrant, capital city of the Netherlands, Clayton Hotel Amsterdam American, now part of Dalata Hotel Group is a 4-star, 173-bedroom hotel with an extensive food and beverage offering including the famous Cafe Americain and Bar Americain. It is located on the Leidseplein, in one of the most famous art nouveau buildings in Amsterdam
Objective of the Role
As our Chef de Partie, you will support the kitchen team in preparing dishes for all food & beverage outlets in the hotel, from mid-day lunches to elegant evening dinners. You’ll ensure that every plate looks just as good as it tastes, and you’ll bring your knowledge of trends, ingredients, and techniques to continuously elevate our guests’ dining experience. Your day-to-day responsibilities will be dynamic and creative – just like our menu.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare dishes according to recipes, plating guides and chef’s instructions
- Take ownership of your station, maintaining cleanliness, prep levels, and efficiency
- Review daily prep and production needs and maintain stock according to FIFO and HACCP standards
- Participate in and suggest menu development ideas and garnishes
- Guide and support team members during service
- Monitor dish quality – taste, colour, temperature, and presentation
- Support daily mise en place and maintain organisation during peak service periods
- Maintain kitchen hygiene, follow food safety policies, and uphold personal cleanliness standards
Requirements:
- MBO Level 2 or higher
- Demonstrable knowledge of basic cooking techniques and food safety
- Proven experience in a similar kitchen environment
- Excellent planning and organisational skills
- Strong sense of responsibility and quality awareness
- Effective communication and collaboration skills
- Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and holidays
